On Wednesday afternoon Japan will welcome Ghana to the National Olympic Stadium in an international friendly.
For Akira Nishino s Japan side, after finishing rock bottom of Group C at the 2014 World Cup, Japan appears to have bounced back after dominating in the Asian qualifying groups. Finish top of the group and holding both the best attacking and defensive records in the group stages, Japan will head to Russia in a group with Poland, Senegal and Columbia. While they did impress during the Group stages, Nishino will know his side must use their friendlies against Ghana, Switzerland and Paraguay to iron out their recent issues. Japan are coming off the back of a 2-1 loss at home to Ukraine and they have now won just two of their last eight. However, while the hosts have shipped seven in their last three, they have managed to find the net in six of their last eight.
As for Ghana, although they may have reached the quarterfinals at the World Cup in 2010, only to be cruelly knocked out by Uruguay on penalties, the visitors have drastically failed to improve on their platform. Failing to pick up a single point in 2014, despite appointing former Chelsea manager Avram Grant, Ghana have failed to reach this years finals after falling behind both Egypt and Uganda during qualifying. Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Egypt, Ghana have now picked up just one win in their last eight. However, Ghana have failed to find the net in their last 11 in all competitions.
